Wednesday Smiles
Oct. 15th, 2008 02:41 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
My smiles:
1. Rachel Maddow handed David Frum his ass on a gilded platter -- and she did it with such grace & civility. :)2. Two squirrels were chasing each other around and playing tag in my yard earlier this week.
3. Thank you, Campbell Brown, for being a voice of sanity.
I mostly post fannish things in this journal, but I think it's easy to forget that there is a real person behind the fic and the Bones commentary. Same goes for other people, of course. So I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge our humanity.
If you'd like to do so, please tell me something that made you smile this week, no matter how small. Could be the snuggle your dog gave you on Monday, the song you discovered on Tuesday, or the way your significant other smiled at you today. I've been posting these since December. If you feel up to it, please respond—here, in your own journal, or elsewhere. Feel free to post more than one thing and/or respond to other comments.
Why am I doing this? Because I think it is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses, big and small, that we all experience. Being able to focus on one positive thing, however small, can give one a valuable sense of perspective.
Why Wednesday? I figure a little mid-week cheer can't hurt. :)
Please feel free to comment even if we're not "friends."
P.S.
I don't always get a chance to respond to all your smiles, but I read every single one. They all leave me feeling a little bit lighter than I did before. So thank you! I hope you're all having a good week, my friends, and if you're not, I hope it improves.

- We're having less work this week, it's not like we're not doing anything, but at least we have time to take a breath.
- I made seitan out of plain gluten a few days ago. I experimented a new way adding some spices and it turned out to be yummy.
- Barney Stinson.

And who is that gorgeous child in your icon?

A child in my icon? :-P

Thank you for posting this, I always look forward to it *g*

Date: 2008-10-15 07:47 pm (UTC)2. Your #3. Rationality is a nice thing to see.
3. Monday, I hand wrote a fic in the midst of subbing. I still have some tinkering to do, but I'm really happy with the initial product. It was the catharsis I needed that day.
4. Your banner. I know you've had it for awhile, but today it's really making me smile.
5. Wilson's back on House!

I have been on leave for 3 days this week so only have today and tomorrow to get through before the weekend - then am only in the office 1 day next week :)
My new Godson (4 days old!) - had my first cuddles yesterday and he stayed awake and happy while I snuggled him.
Great night out in Oxford last night and a bit of shopping yesterday too - I found really REALLY long PJ pants which is great for me as I have 36inch inside leg and hate it when PJs scrunch up round my knees!

Date: 2008-10-16 10:48 pm (UTC)That Rachel Maddow clip is outstanding! Watching her hand David Frum his ass, and do it with such style and grace, was beautiful.
Little known fact: David Frum is (secretly) Canadian. I can't help but feel embarrassed and ashamed to admit he's a product of my beloved country. His mother was an icon of Canadian journalism, a fierce and brilliant woman who always made sense to me. David, not so much.
Anyway ... my smile this week was worth waiting a day for:
+ I got a new job! I'm moving within the organization, which makes me happy because I love it here. But I'll get to learn and do more, which is very exciting because I'm ready for a new challenge.
+ Also, I'm happy to be back here after a couple of weeks away. I know I'm a stranger to you, lerdo, and to this group, but I've always felt included and accepted. For that, I am always happy and grateful.
