My smile:  rediscovering an old song -- U2's Dirty Day.

I mostly post fannish things in this journal, but I think it's easy to forget that there is a real person behind the fic and the Bones commentary Same goes for other people, of course.   So I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge our humanity.

If you'd like to do so, please tell me something that made you smile this week, no matter how small.  Could be the snuggle your dog gave you on Monday, the song you discovered on Tuesday, or the way your significant other smiled at you today.  I've been posting these since December.  If you feel up to it, please respond—here, in your own journal, or elsewhere.   Feel free to post more than one thing and/or respond to other comments.

Why am I doing this?  Because I think it is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses, big and small, that we all experience.   Being able to focus on one positive thing, however small, can give one a valuable sense of perspective.

Why Wednesday?  I figure a little mid-week cheer can't hurt.  :)

Please feel free to comment even if we're not "friends."

P.S.
I don't always get a chance to respond to all your smiles, but I read every single one.  They all leave me feeling a little bit lighter than I did before.  So thank you!  I hope you're all having a good week, my friends, and if you're not, I hope it improves.

My husband has been on holidays and has found many ways to show how much he loves me. Making nice dinners, driving me to work, getting the morning paper for me. This, after 30 years together, makes me happy.

Glad you are as well.

(: PJ

my boss backing me up against my chopsie team i.e. getting to laugh inwardly when my boss said "anyone got any moans and groans" and them all staying schtum even though they've spent the last 3 weeks making my life a living hell with their moans and groans....

Hit my deadlines! And have a little bit of 'me time' which equals music blaring through the house. Shinedown. Vast. Green Day. Cher. Yes, Cher. But only because it's on a playlist for a fic that has a club scene. Now there's a smile -- Hodgins and Booth shouldering through a club to get to the upstairs. You know Jack will insist on dancing.

And most of all? You wrote for me. That's going to keep me grinning for days!

I'm thankful this week because I have a wonderful beta who I nearly lost through a stupid, stupid comment and who has forgiven me the misunderstanding. So my good moments this week have all revolved around getting back on track with our partnership...

Yeah, no kidding! It's not just a writing partnership, it's a valued friendship as well. I'm soooooooo grateful that we're working our way back towards where we were...

These things happen and e-mail is bad for lack of tone, but the fault was entirely mine for being a smart ass at an inappropriate time. Keep those good betas close; they are NOT a dime a dozen. And on top of that, they're good people...

So true! And I totally get what you mean about email not being good for tone - so easy for something to sound completely different to how you wanted it to!

Sorry to butt in, but I completely agree-email and anything really that comes online is really hard to interpret tone, which is why you always have to be careful what you say. Especially when you're joking, as I've discovered when I can't tell if my friend's joking over IM and such. Although luckily for me, no fights from it. ;)

Helloo! Hope you are well.
Today started poorly as I could not get to where I needed to be because two key roads were closed for repair and the detour took me 15 miles out of my way because of 500 yards of road being shut.

However, I then went with aged parents to Kilburn to look at the works of Robert Thompson, a 20th century furniture and woodworker. He signed each piece he made with a small carved mouse. We didn't buy anything. A very nice chair was £999 and a gorgeous moneybox in the shape of a wedge of cheese with the mouse's head sticking out of a hole on one side with his backside and tail coming out of the other was a modest £288. The things were beautiful though. The church was shut but my mother was most moved to find two wooden grave markers, both with a mouse on to two soldiers of World War 2. One was killed in Egypt and the other at Dunkirk.

We then went to Helmsley, a market town with some excellent shops. We got pork pies, curd tarts, a lardy cake and a fat rascal to bring home. Ooooh the calories.
We passed through Byland Abbey on the way there which features a very impressive 12th century monastery ruin. There are quite a few in this area: Rivaulx, Jervaulx, all ruins thanks to Henry VIII. The monks at Jervaulx are credited with inventing, and keeping safe, the recipe for Wensleydale cheese, which, if you know Wallace and Gromit is cracking cheese.

I love holidays.

I'm happy today because I had a wonderful lunch with beautiful old friends.

Also, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel on a summer-long work project. It feels so good to be nearing the end!

Lets see if I can get something happy out of this horrible week...

I went to a community service retreat called iServe and my group was mostly freshman so I was one of the older ones. A girl named Katie said to me, "Thanks for taking charge. This is our first time coming and we didn't know what to do."

Spending two hours on the phone with my sister and brother-in-law and feeling like I'm in the room with them instead of several states away.

BTW, I'm new to this fandom and am slowly working my way through your fic and absolutely love it so far.

my manager is letting me get trained to do mouse house full-time!!!!! its basically a night-time daycare so that parents can escape HAPPY DISNEY FUN TIME and get a breather, go out to dinner, drink. and the kids are SOOOOOOOOO cute, and when theres no one there we get to watch movies and color and make jewelery. plus, my hours are about to get cut back now that we're reaching the end of peak season, so being kids activity-trained opens up more hours and more money for me.

in conclusion:
