Wednesday Smiles
Mar. 5th, 2008 02:43 pmI mostly post fannish things in this journal, but I think it's easy to forget that there is a real person behind the fic and the squeeing over Bones. Same goes for other people, of course. So I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge our humanity.
Please tell me something that made you smile this week, no matter how small. Could be the snuggle your dog gave you on Monday, the song you discovered on Tuesday, or the way your significant other smiled at you today. I'm going to try to post this every Wednesday for myself, and if you feel up to it, please respond—here, in your own journal, or elsewhere. Feel free to post more than one thing and/or respond to other comments.
Why am I doing this? Because I think it is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses, big and small, that we all experience. Being able to focus on one positive thing, however small, can give one a valuable sense of perspective.
Why Wednesday? I figure a little mid-week cheer can't hurt. :)
If you feel weird about doing this in public, please comment anonymously. I'm setting this entry to screen anon comments; I won't unscreen any anon comments unless you give me permission. And please feel free to comment even if we're not "friends."
I'll be back with my response.
P.S.
I don't always get a chance to respond to all your smiles, but I read every single one. They all leave me feeling a little bit lighter than I did before. So thank you! I hope you're all having a good week, my friends, and if you're not, I hope it improves.

Date: 2008-03-05 08:52 pm (UTC)1. Yesterday a friend of mine, a guy, told me he's finishing watching season 2 of Bones, and was anxious and excited about B&B. His tone made me laugh and think of him as a fangirl. He's totally a fangirl. LOL
2. My niece, Naia, keeps learning new words every day and mixing languages. But even if she's not mixing always surprises me and makes me smile.
3. New pics today of Mulder and Scully in their next X-Files movie. OMG!!
4. Weather forecast were saying a big snow storm was coming, and it finally were not as terrible as they predicted. Roads were clean and we all got to work on time.
Is your week going well? I hope so. Hugs.

Date: 2008-03-05 09:48 pm (UTC)That makes ME smile!
Your friend who's a boy is a fangirl for Bones. Love it. *g*
And yay for your niece picking up new words. I wish I still learned new words at that rate. ;) Naia is a beautiful name, by the way.
Is your week going well?
It is, my dear. :) Thank you for asking. Now I just have to respond to this post myself! Many hugs to you.

Naia (or Nahia, both accepted) is Basque for Wish.

Date: 2008-03-05 09:43 pm (UTC)Volunteers to pitch their choice to the rest of the class resulted in off the cuff reviews starting with The Diary of Ann Frank, moving through Jaqueline Wilson, a very popular British teen writer, to Jeremy Clarkson and his big boys toys i.e. cars.
One girl recited the entire plot of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory from memory. Admittedly it bore more resemblance to the film but what a feat.
It was great and made me think, 'Hey, kids do still read and enjoy good books.'
Made my day.
Oh and your replies to my feedbacks (sic). Always my treat.

Date: 2008-03-06 12:39 am (UTC)An example of a small bit that made me smile:
"You really shouldn't do that to people," I criticized. "It's hardly fair."
"Do what?"
"Dazzle them like that-she's probably hyperventilating in the kitchen right now."
I'd put more in here, but that would make my post quite long and I don't want to give anything away for anyone who hasn't read yet. Really good book (but in connection with your earlier post, it's in first person).
Anyways...happy Wednesday! Hope you're having a great day!
