Wednesday Smiles
Feb. 20th, 2008 07:29 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I mostly post fannish things in this journal, but I think it's easy to forget that there is a real person behind the fic and the squeeing over Bones. Same goes for other people, of course. So I'd like to take a minute to acknowledge our humanity.
Please tell me something that made you smile this week, no matter how small. Could be the snuggle your dog gave you on Monday, the song you discovered on Tuesday, or the way your significant other smiled at you today. I'm going to try to post this every Wednesday for myself, and if you feel up to it, please respond—here, in your own journal, or elsewhere. Feel free to post more than one thing and/or respond to other comments.
Why am I doing this? Because I think it is far too easy to get caught up in the stresses, big and small, that we all experience. Being able to focus on one positive thing, however small, can give one a valuable sense of perspective.
Why Wednesday? I figure a little mid-week cheer can't hurt. :)
If you feel weird about doing this in public, please comment anonymously. I'm setting this entry to screen anon comments; I won't unscreen any anon comments unless you give me permission. And please feel free to comment even if we're not "friends."
I'll be back with my response.
P.S.
I don't always get a chance to respond to all your smiles, but I read every single one. They all leave me feeling a little bit lighter than I did before. So thank you! I hope you're all having a good week, my friends, and if you're not, I hope it improves.

Date: 2008-02-20 01:17 pm (UTC)2. My cat. Even when I'm at one end of the couch, and there is plenty of room up the other end for him, he feels compelled to curl up on my stomach or legs and purr. It seems his greatest joy in life is to be close to you and it gives you this is sweet feeling of just being loved. My cat always makes me smile.

Date: 2008-02-20 03:01 pm (UTC)And it gives me great relief to know that I have the kind of neighbors who will run across the street - barefoot in the rain, no less - to help when I'm in need. Though I can't smile about the situation yet, I am certainly deeply grateful.

3. MY DOCTOR WHO DVDs CAME IN! Best part is, they were free, because I ordered them through this peer reward system here at work. Very nifty.

Date: 2008-02-20 05:20 pm (UTC)There's a study abroad program where professors get you passes to see the films, and you live in France for a month, and you get to walk the red carpet. And I am going! They interviewed me and made me write an essay (and I was a nervous wreck) and then...they said 'yes, we want YOU!'
Now I have to totally blow all the money I've earned on red-carpet worthy outfits. What a challenge that will be.

Date: 2008-02-21 11:56 am (UTC)So, 1. The incredible Lerdo and her wednesday smiles :)
2. My little boy Joe for continuing to be incredibly brave and taking yet another trip to hospital in his stride. He has to wear a cast for another two weeks and he isn't remotely bothered *proud mum alert*
3. My good friend Mel for offering to babysit this friday as it's my birthday, even though it means bringing her kids with her and dealing with four little monsters.
4. My husband for making me laugh til my sides ached as we went to sleep last night - one of those you had to be there moments, we both kept coming out with hilarious nonsense.
5. Special thanks to the burglars that broke our rotten old garage door... a shiny new one is being fitted by my insurance company as I type :)

Date: 2008-02-22 11:44 am (UTC)1. I made friends with someone I've waited to talk to ever since October. And I'm not the one who took the first step towards him.(This sounds weird for someone who doesn't know my history, but to cut it short...well, it's not easy for me to make friends).
2. Before I left for college, my kitten came back! She had been missing for a while and I finally found her again!
