I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. I read your journals, and you update regularly and in detail. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you for your interest in my words.
But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...they listen in rapture to the love-music of she-turnips."
I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who comment all the time. Then post this in your own journal and see what gems of knowledge appear.
ETA: Post as many tidbits about yourself as you'd like! You don't have to limit yourself to one.

Date: 2007-12-19 11:33 am (UTC)My mother went to finishing school in the South and I used to have to attend bi-annual cotillions (once in the spring and once in the winter) and got blacklisted from the local social register for showing up to a debutante ball with a car-full of drunk and stoned boys in tuxes... two hours after the debs were presented.
*g*
As a follow up to show how far I've fallen, I have three tattoos (two of which are relatively large). And six ear piercings (down from the height of 10 in my late 20s).

Date: 2007-12-19 11:57 am (UTC)Post 50 things if you'd like. I'm a curious soul and would love to know about the person behind the username. :)
Oh, I would have loved to see the reaction as you showed up with your friends. *g* I have no idea what you look like, but I have a mental picture of some facets of your personality. Suffice it to say that I cannot picture you at a debutante ball.
Yes, I remember you mentioned your upper back tattoo in one of your recent posts. If you don't mind my asking, what images do the tatts consist of?
And six ear piercings (down from the height of 10 in my late 20s).
Does this mean you're becoming more conservative with age? ;)

Date: 2007-12-19 12:03 pm (UTC)I can tell you that, for the ball, I was wearing a green velvet and satin dress, my hair was blonde and curled, my fingers were long and painted red and I was wearing emeralds.
And my feet fucking hurt by the time I got there.
As for the tattoos...
My lower back tattoo is of a dragonfly with some celtic work around it - it was my first and the dragonfly is something of a personal badge of mine. My second is a small chinese kanji on the back of my neck (it means "Dog"). The third, the upper back piece, is directly between my shoulder-blades and opposite of what I consider the focal point of my body (the center of my chest-plate). It is comprised of three celtic dogs in black and greys, interwoven in an eternal celtic knot.

Date: 2007-12-19 01:10 pm (UTC)I'm 20 years old and I've never kissed a guy.
I stand no taller than 5'1 and I absolutely hate it.
My dad is a pure southern boy and I have a slight southern accent thanks to him *wink* And the fact that I've lived my whole life in North Carolina. Haha.

Date: 2007-12-20 01:41 pm (UTC)Well I hope your first kiss is with someone you really like, and not that one guy you mentioned. You know, the one you think you should like, but don't. ;)
I married the first (and only) person I slept with; not because I think there's anything wrong with having more than one partner. That's just how things worked out. And I don't regret it. :)
I'm only 5'2", so I hear you.
I like Southern accents. Just a hint of sweetness.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear you're sick—and while you're on vacation, too! That's terrible. I hope you feel better soon. I'm sending you mental pictures of DB; hope they help cure you. ;)
Come back as many times as you like; I love learning about other people.

Date: 2007-12-19 02:06 pm (UTC)I think Cheetos are absolutely disgusting, to the point that I can hardly stand to be around someone who's eating them.
As a kid, I used to bring a book to the dinner table with me.

I can't remember if I actually brought books to dinner with me, but if you didn't know where I was, you could usually find me in my room with my nose buried in a book. My father wasn't happy when he found me reading Gone With the Wind when I was in 4th or 5th grade. *g*
I loved the county library, the media center at school, etc. Yum. Books. :)

Thank you! I've seen enough bad relationships to know that everyone needs a little luck!

Date: 2007-12-19 03:11 pm (UTC)whoa, that's kinda awesome. in a really weird wtf way. :D
Um, I'm lurking around this journal for the fic. :) Bones is a pretty minor fandom for me. HP, SGA, SG-1 and Supernatural are my main fandoms. I'm in love with the character of Jack O'Neill. Also Snape. And I think DB is hotter as Booth than he was as Angel, especially in the later seasons. I never really got into Buffy either, more because I was too late watching it I guess [I only started watching it last year or so].
In regards to non-fandom me: I love the colour dark blue, the song Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls, am a chocolate addict and am currently in desperate need of a holiday. :)

I'm glad you delurked. :)
I've read all the HP books, and I've watched and enjoyed the first two seasons of SPN, but I'm not involved in either fandom. SG-1 and SGA I know very little about, though
As for DB, I wouldn't kick him out of bed for eating crackers, as the saying goes. *g* I discovered him during the Buffy years and was wowed by him and by Buffy/Angel. B/A will always own a little corner of my heart. I've only seen a couple Angel eps, but I plan to catch up someday.
Iris is a beautiful song.
Ah, chocolate. What's not to love?
Hope you get that vacation soon.

Date: 2007-12-19 06:26 pm (UTC)I love all kinds of music, from classical to hip-hop. I love movies. I used to read a novel/week, now I read fanfic instead.
I'm a college professor, married, with one child - an adult woman, who's an art director/set decorator in movies/tv/print ads/commercials.
I've written a couple of books, and am working on a third, which is on the buffy and angel online fandoms.
I'm in reasonably good health, am reasonably happy, and am, overall, "reasonable".
How about telling me something about YOU?

Oh, I am so with you. There's so much to listen to, read, and watch. Just not enough time. :)

I LOVE this. In fact, I may steal it.

That is fascinating. I want to read that book. :) What were the subjects of your previous books?
How about telling me something about YOU?
I hate talking about myself, but since you asked... ;)
I'll tell you thirteen things:
1. The Hot Chick (http://imdb.com/title/tt0302640/) is one of my guilty pleasure movies. What can I say? Rob Schneider as a teenage girl cracks me up. *g*
2. Pan's Labyrinth (http://imdb.com/title/tt0457430/) made me cry.
3. I own way too many books about writing; it's an addiction. *g* Well, I probably own too many books, period.
4. During college, I interned at Ms. Magazine.
5. A couple years ago, I almost went back to school to become a marriage and family therapist. (My B.A. was in English.)
6. I think everyone has a story to tell, if only we are ready to listen.
7. I married the first (and only) person I slept with; not because I think there's anything wrong with having more than one partner. That's just how things worked out. And I don't regret it. :)
8. No kids yet. I was pregnant a couple months ago and had a missed miscarriage. We'll reenter the trying phase soon.
9. My parents are from Calcutta, India. They came here after marriage. I consider myself American and Indian.
10. I'm agnostic, so I don't believe in God. There could be one (or several)—I just haven't experienced anything that makes me think there is one. I'm happy to be proven wrong. On the off-chance that I'm reincarnated, I'd like to study psychology and sociology in greater depth in my next life. :)
11. I'm a low-maintenance type of person. Not much drama, pretty reasonable, and tend towards pragmatism and optimism.
12. Getting older doesn't have to be a bad thing. I like who I am at 30 more than I like who I was at 20.
13. If there's one thing I want for myself, purely for me, it's to be a writer.
Hope I haven't put you to sleep. :D

Date: 2007-12-19 06:27 pm (UTC)At 27, living on my own for the first time, I still don't have it all figured out. This past year I became very environmentally conscious and really think about things differently than before. I'm a romantic in the sense that when I meet the right person I'll just *know*. I'm loyal to a fault sometimes. And I believe in second chances.

Date: 2007-12-20 04:14 pm (UTC)*g* Don't worry, you probably won't have it all figured out when you're 67, either. I'm 30, and I still don't have a clue what the hell I'm doing. Somehow, we all muddle through.

I wish I spoke Spanish; it's a useful language to know. :)

Michelangelo is my favorite artist and my goal in life is to see as many of his works of art as possible. At last count, I only have two to go.
That's fascinating!
You take lovely photos; I've seen some of them on your website.
I'm also very opinionated about things like politics and history, though I try to curb my more forceful instincts in order to not alienate people.
Now you've made me very curious. *g*
And I am obsessively addicted to many a TV show and movies :)
Hear hear!

Date: 2007-12-20 11:35 pm (UTC)As for the politics, my liberal point of view is just sometimes not as accepted in some circles. Especially in the current day and climate of U.S. politics. But I'm a strong advocate that people always have a right to their own opinions, but they just need to know why they have them.

Date: 2007-12-20 07:31 am (UTC)Erm, my full name is Lauren but I usually go by Ren.
I don't remember ever seriously wanting to be a princess when I was little- though I do remember that I wanted to chase tornadoes for several years.
Horses are one of my absolute favorite animals, and coming into my room means being assaulted by posters, books, figurines and other such horsey stuff :D
no subject
Date: 2007-12-20 01:57 pm (UTC)I don't think I ever wanted to be a princess either. And chasing tornadoes sounds much more interesting! (Albeit, kind of scary, too.)
I think I rode a horse once when I was a kid. I don't remember much about the experience apart from thinking that horses are kind of smelly. :D But I loved Black Beauty.

Well yeah, they can definitely be kinda smelly, heh.

Date: 2007-12-21 03:08 pm (UTC)*I live on the Northern Beaches in Sydney. It's like... beach beach beach beach beach. And it's the northern most point of what can still be called Sydney, as the name suggests. Palm Beach, the very last one, is where celebrities rent holiday houses - Tom and Nicole and the kids for Christmas. Oh and Baywatch shot some stuff here before we told them to bugger off.
*I kind of rocked high school art but I only started in year 10. I like art and I used to be really into watercolours as my main medium but acting was always my first artistic thing. But I like to sing and play the flute and dance and write (once upon a time) so I really can't control myself! I'm a Pisces, you see.
*I was named after my Nanna and one of my Godmothers. This one is harder to remember and be useful but I thought I'd tell you anyway.

Date: 2007-12-21 07:24 pm (UTC)I have a tattoo of an ankh on my lower back.
I started knitting my first jumper in January this year and still haven't finished it - I have one sleeve left to do!
I am the Queen of Spreadsheets at work.
Lois McMaster Bujold is one of my favourite authors and I would recommend her books to everyone.
At age 30, I am still waiting to feel like a grown-up.
