God is merely a cultural construct; Brennan hasn't seen any evidence to the contrary.  Booth would disagree vehemently, but not even waking up with his warm chest pressed against her back has changed her mind about that.

Oh, she doesn't begrudge him his beliefs--she isn't so blinded by science as he thinks--that she cannot perceive the solace they offer him.  Without question, his face settles into more peaceful lines after his nightly prayers.

He prays for her; he told her over dinner last month.

The crease between his eyebrows had hinted at his concern about her reaction to that news.

He shouldn't have worried.  After too many years of wondering if she mattered to anyone, really mattered, it was a relief--no, a privilege--to know she did.

So when he told her, she just smiled and watched the crease smooth out.

Humility isn't her strong suit.  Booth would laugh uproariously if she voiced that thought, but his eyes are warm with acceptance when he looks at her, so yes, she feels a bit humbled.

While she doesn't believe in God, she believes in this:  the man seated across from her, who has just handed her the last hot, flaky spring roll.

It's always great to start the weekend with a new story from you!

*smooches you* Thanks, Elena.

You listen to REM, too? :) I think, oddly enough, that's generally the first thing I look at when you post. What you're listening to. If I don't already listen to it, chances are that I probably should. Anyway, I digress!

This rings so true. I absolutely think Brennan would be pleased, at least inwardly, to know that Booth prays for her, knowing how much his faith means to him. Plus, any guy who gives you the last spring roll is a keeper. Now I want crab rangoon.

(I was awake for 19 hours yesterday. I ramble when I'm tired. I should just resort to leaving you "omg that was gr8; update soon pls!" reviews, huh?)

[identity profile] lerdo.livejournal.com 2008-02-08 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I love REM. Automatic for the People, in particular, is an excellent album.

You didn't digress; I always check out what other people are listening to. It's a good way to find new tunes. :)

Honestly, I don't care if you think this rings true or not. Fanfic exists so I can write whatever the hell I want; it doesn't matter if Brennan and Booth seem out of character to everyone else. (Please note I am joking.)

Crab rangoon? Mm. Now I want some. *sigh*

Why were you up for 19 hrs? And I like your rambling, so ramble away. I will gladly accept any kind of comment from you, sweetie. *g* And I think you meant this: "OmG, tHT wUZ GR8 upDAtE soon PLZ!!!"

I can guarantee there wouldn't be a semicolon there. See, even when you TRY to write horribly, you fail. So, in essence, you win at life.

I saw them in concert with a friend when I was in high school; my mom drove us there and ended up scalping a ticket. I was mortified and made her sit a good distance away. :)

[still laughing too hard at this part to comment]

Okay, start driving - I'll meet you in the middle and we'll get Chinese food.

Those 19 hours involved giving E three baths (none of them for happy reasons), installing a baby gate into the MOST RIDICULOUS WALLS to ever hold up a house, four trips to Target/the hardware store/the asylum (oh, wait, that last one isn't 'til this weekend) ... more rambling, but it was a crazy day, the likes of which can go suck an egg.

Semicolon's a giveaway, huh? I'll try harder next time. :)

mmm I want some crab rangoon too :)

[identity profile] lerdo.livejournal.com 2008-02-08 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds pretty enticing right now, doesn't it? :)

*drools*

Oh, gods that sounds good.

Well now it's a happy Friday, before it was rather suspect :P

*hugs you back*

Aw, shucks. *g* Thank you kindly, madam.

Nathan!

he's rather adorable, yes? :D

he's rather adorable, yes?

He's delightful, adorable, and a whole host of other wonderful things. :)

I've always wondered what Brennan thinks of Booth being religious - at times she seems oblivious to his need for it, but then at other times I feel like she's just teasing him about it, but she understands. So I think I'm good with this insight into her mind - thank you. Le sigh at the spring rolls, even though I just ate. :o)

[identity profile] lerdo.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not Brennan's way to be religious, but I think that as much as she teases Booth about it, she understands that it is meaningful to him.

So I think I'm good with this insight into her mind - thank you.

Thank you for reading and commenting. :)

I'm with you on the spring rolls; writing about them made me hungry. *g*

nice work :)

Thanks for reading this. :)

Like the title, it is indeed very sweet :) Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Avery. I'm happy you enjoyed this. :)

[identity profile] a2zmom.livejournal.com 2008-02-08 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree, she believes in Booth completely.

Humility isn't her strong suit. Booth would laugh uproariously if she voiced that thought, but his eyes are warm with acceptance when he looks at her, so yes, she feels a bit humbled.

A beautiful insight.

I love it when people write the simpler moments, especially when paired with a more profound revelation. It's so true to life, I think.

REM is like a religion in Athens. I actually think not liking them is considered a crime.

Wonderful.

[identity profile] lerdo.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, Donna. :)

Oh this is so sweet. I too believe that God is a social construct (although less sure of it than Brennan is).

[identity profile] lerdo.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you very much. :) I'm pleased you enjoyed this.

While she doesn't believe in God, she believes in this: the man seated across from her, who has just handed her the last hot, flaky spring roll.

True, so very true: she believes in HIM - and he does know that. :-)

[identity profile] lerdo.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
*sigh* Don't they just melt your heart?

Thanks, Makd. BTW, I want to eat your icon.

Very believable that Brennan's relationship with Booth would alter her views of organised religion. In her own logical way, she's beginning to get a better understanding of why others believe.

I was going to tease you with a sucky review, but I think everyone else has pretty much covered all the 'OMG! that was, like, teh BEST fic ever!' ribbing I could ever come up with, lol. Text messaging has killed the English language...

[identity profile] lerdo.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
The church scene in Aliens... sealed it for me; she gets it. She isn't a believer, but she understands that religion offers Booth something. I'm agnostic, but it isn't hard for me to understand why religion appeals to some people.

Don't tax your brain trying to come up with a scary review. *g* I like your normal ones just fine. ;)

Text messaging has killed the English language...

Don't get me started. *g*

Thanks for your feedback, Piper. :)

He prays for her; he told her over dinner last month.

Yes, he would. But not for her salvation or her eternal soul, but for her safety and what little peace-of-mind he can make for her.

Very nice.

Precisely that, Witchy. Thank you.

Me too. :) I miss seeing them on my TV.

Super sweet!! :D :D
He's her God :P (and ours too, don't ya think? ;))

[identity profile] lerdo.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, Sara.

Well, I don't know if he's her God per se, but she certainly has a great deal of faith in him. :)
