Bones: The Passenger in the Oven
*sigh* I wish there had been more continuity between Con Man and this episode. Some fallout would have been appropriate.
There was stuff I liked: the older woman who was a Temperance Brennan fan, how ridiculous Brennan looked in those glasses, that puzzled look on her face as she shook out her hair, and Hodgins asking Cam if it meant something that Angela and Roxie had packed one bag for their getaway. (Although, given that in Death in the Saddle Brennan mentioned having indulged in role play, I think it's possible she would have understood what Booth was not-so-subtly hinting here. But sometimes I think they're writing her as becoming more clueless the further we get into the show...)
I have to say, I've loved the Cam and Hodgins scenes we've been getting lately. Not in a shippy, I-want-them-to-make-out-and-declare-their-undying-love kind of way. They just play off each other so nicely; there's a burgeoning friendship there. I've thought for a while now that Tamara Taylor is just a great actress. She -- and Cam -- have really come into their own. Watching her is truly a pleasure, and TJ's always been awesome.
So I thought this episode was OK. It left me feeling a little blah, on the whole. That's fine; I don't expect any show to always be stellar. But I did feel a bit disappointed.

If Fox would just air the episodes in the order they are supposed to, then we would have an actual storyline that makes sense. If you go over to

Agreed. Bones is known to have its off-and-on weeks and this was one of its in the middle weeks. Nothing really broke out from this episode for me so it was pretty blah.

Thanks! :D

At the same time: three scenes: the librarian fantasy, Brennan's hair coming down, and the end-scene were wonderful.
I don't expect too much, though. Fox's suits play around way too much with episode order. If they'd just play them as they're supposed to be shown, they'd have more contented viewers.

i also liked how he was getting all insecure about her wanting to continue doing what they do. it was cute. quite the change from the beginning of the series when he was so hesitant about bringing her out into the field.
it's possible they'll get more into fallout of conman if/when jared has a repeat performance. didn't i hear somewhere that he's scheduled for a few more episodes? perhaps booth's just repressing his feelings from last week and they'll come out again.

I thought that was great: the first time they discussed it, when the stewardess was making him return to coach, you could tell it really bothered him, which was freakin' adorable.
At the end, the closing scene, he was awesome, cause he totally turned it all around on her, making her admit that it was her that made that choice and he didn't pull her away from her "true passion"; he's just sitting there smiling the whole time, just reveling in the "Reverse Psychology" he pulled on her.
And why exactly would they need the whole bottle of champagne later? Oh yeah, they're gonna cuff the kid to the seat and go snog in the back? Yep... sounds good to me.

That was one of my favorite parts of the episode. He looked genuinely concerned about whether she was still enjoying it or not.
Love your reasoning for why they needed the champagne later, too. ;)

I agree about this sort of feeling disconnected from "Con man" (maybe as other's pointed out this is because Fox messes with the airing order, which is just idiotic. Not to mention annoying), but I still enjoyed it. I loved Brennan actually shaking out her hair (though as you point they seem to be making her more clueless and that's annoying) and their end scene. Random scene I enjoyed: the Squints getting called back to the lab. Idk, I think I just liked seeing everyone out of their work clothes!
Anyhow, not an amazing top five episode, but not an abysmal one either.
PS---Your music selection rocks! I'm totally going to listen to that CD because I haven't in awhile and now I really want to.

And for me, the only thing that redeemed the episode was Cam and Hodgins's fantastically tight biking shirt. Other than that, I thought it was awful. But to each their own. :)

Well, that's just....blech.

This is exactly the first thing I thought of.. though I did adore that she tried shaking her hair out once he was out of sight.
I think blah pretty much sums it up for me too. And the continuity thing bothers me. Besides the Booth-Brennan-Jared thing, in Conman Hodgins and Angela make a big thing of going on about how well they can still work together to Clarke and that sits better after the conversation they had in this ep IMO. Then again I like the idea that Booth is being more openly flirty with Brennan post-Jared.
I liked the thread of him questioning whether he is dragging her away from her first love of anthropology as well.

i really want overlying arcage between those two and we're just not seeing it. :(

actually, i've gotta finish writing my followup to conman. more angst, less ignoring.

Totally. Although in this scene I tried to look at it as her not being able to multi-task: she obviously can't work and flirt at the same time, and apparently he can.
I felt a little let down after last week too, but at least we weren't subjected to Goof!Booth. I loved the sexy librarian scene, and I think it was one tiny little baby step closer for them: he seemed very comfortable with flirting with her and even though she was oblivious it was progress. (Listen to my inner shipper rationalize)
I'll give it a solid B.

Oh! You have a rationalising inner-shipper too... it makes me feel so much better to know I'm not alone in this ;)

But, I liked the same things you did (I am not surprised), not my favorite, but not bad in places.

For the effort that Fox make, every episode might as well be the pilot: there is so little awareness of story arcs or character development. It must be really frustrating to pick up a script and have to ask 'OK, which version of Booth/Bones do I have to be this week?'
I enjoyed Booth though.
