The Real Thing
After a dinner of bean curd with vegetables (Brennan’s choice) and chicken with broccoli, Booth drives Brennan home.A curl of dark hair kisses her cheek as she turns her head to look at him, one hand on the door handle. “Thank you, Booth.”
“Forget it.” He waves away her thanks.
The ghost of a smile caresses her lips, and suddenly he wants very much to kiss her. “I won’t,” she says, stepping out of the truck.
“Don’t worry; there’s someone out there for you.”
“How can you be so sure?” she says through the window.
“Some things you just know.” He shrugs. “Anyway, a woman like you won’t be alone long,” he adds.
For a moment, she looks like she’s going to speak, but then she just shakes her head. “Good night.”
“Night, Bones.”
The door closes, and Booth watches his partner walk away from him, her silky black dress floating around her legs as her heels click along the sidewalk. He waits till the light near her window winks on before he leaves.
Sweets is wrong; there’s nothing surrogate about their relationship.
Besides, everything happens eventually – all the good stuff. You just have to be ready for it.

It's the little things that make your fics so fulfilling. There never needs to be more words than you write. I always love them and go off into my own little reverie. Here I was driving away with Booth feeling satisfied; replete even.
Thank you.

I don't know why, but reading this I found out that the ending of this episode reminds me of the ending of "Hollywood AD", The X-Files, season 7. It's different because by then M&S were already more than partners, but still...
*sighs*

Hey, question- do you know if the episodes were filmed out of order? Because Angela and Hodgins were acting distinctly non-awkward for having just broken off an engagement. It was strange to me
no subject
*g* There's a reason for that. From the final scene of The Boneless Bride in the River:
Special Agent Seeley Booth: What are you gonna vomit when you come across one of those horrific cases?
Dr. Temperance Brennan: I don't vomit.
Special Agent Seeley Booth: Give it time, Bones, okay? Give it time. Everything happens eventually.
Dr. Temperance Brennan: Everything?
Special Agent Seeley Booth: All the good stuff. And when you think it never happens, it happens. Just got to be ready for it.
It felt like it didn't really click back into place until the scene with Sweets though, the case didn't quite hold my attention like it normally would.
I hear ya. My head is still spinning from that last scene; I'm going to need some distance before I can decide how I felt about the rest of the ep.
And yes, I believe the episodes were filmed/aired out of order. You're right; Jack and Angela did not give off we-just-broke-up vibes.
Thanks for reading.

*forgetful*
*grin*
That explains why I could hear him saying it in my head, I suppose. Because I had heard him say it *g*
Exactly. Distance. I'm probably going to have to watch it again before I decide, because except for the last scene, it felt strange.
Okay, so not just me then. It's a bit confusing the way they air the eps, heh.

That's what I keep telling myself!
I love it. That little hesitation you mentioned before Bones says good night... so perfect, so... them!
Great great work. ♥

“Don’t worry; there’s someone out there for you.”
I love the way Booth jumps back in there with that with no preamble. He knows what's on her mind.
This is lovely :)

The last sentence made me laugh.
:)
Hope you and your little alien are fine.

"Sweets is wrong; there’s nothing surrogate about their relationship."
Perhaps just a tad....incomplete? There's only one little ingredient missing to make the recipe *perfect*, but...what the devil is it? Wait, I know! *adds a dash of mind-blowing sex* Ah, yes...now it's PERFECT!
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I *adore* your B&B on the brink and not *quite* there yet. Again with all its subtleties so beautifully captured in this double drabble. *glomps you for writing it*
